The
first finder for this box may be confused by the dual FFC. I wasn’t sure
in which town it would be planted and I forgot to take out the ‘wrong’ FFC location.
On
July 24 1992 the USPS issued the 50 stamp set of Wildflowers in Columbus OH. Although each flower represented a state, they were not promoted as such.
Maine is linked with the Twinflower - which by its Genus is called Linnaea. It is one of the few species to be named after Carolus Linnaeus.
The flower is the provincial emblem of Smaland in Sweden,
Linnaeus’ home province. It is also a popular Swedish female given name
Linnea -- which brings us to why I have chosen this stamp for planting.
In
memory of my mother, whose middle name was Linnea and who grew up near the ocean, although this LB is planted facing Frenchman Bay . .
. but then she married a Frenchman. Now if only I could have spotted a Twinflower,
this would have been a Sure Path for the ultimate location. Just the
same, this little town is abundant with flowers and color, especially along this coastal walk.
Many a glorious home you will pass with lawn rolling down to the bay. The
one with the black woven chain link behind shrub roses will be your signal to slow your pace.
As
you arrive at the last of the links, if you were walking South, there will be a stone wall holding up the path and
a multi-trunked maple tree shading it. Take a seat on the wall to the left of
the tree (facing the bay.) Below your dangling feet are more wall rocks with
gilded yellow. Wedged in and trapped by a chunk of concrete awaits your Twinflower.
